Multiple Education
Opportunities
For health care professionals in the Greater
Dayton Area, the Center for Health Communities which includes Wright
State University, Sinclair College and Kettering College of Medical
Arts presents a continuing education seminar each year that meets
their needs.
Yearly a survey is taken among the professionals
to determine the seminar subject. Topics have included sub-acute
care, prospective payment issues and gerontology and end-of-life
issues. Over 300 participate in the sessions and earn continuing
education credits.
Attendees include doctors, nurses, psychologists,
social workers, physician assistants, dental hygienists, dieticians,
community health advocates, mental health professionals and education
counselors. By offering the seminars to multiple health care professionals,
the entire community benefits from a greater understanding of current
health care issues.
In addition each year, continuing education
conferences are presented on specific patient populations. Doctors
and nurses earn credits from sessions that address topics such as
health beliefs and practices typically found among patients of Appalachian
culture or patients from Arabic speaking countries. The seminars
focus on developing health care strategies for people from different
cultures.
