Pre-Nursing Club
Akron City Schools fourth and fifth graders
are already planning their careers in health care with memberships
in the Pre-Nursing Club for minority-disadvantaged students coordinated
by the Northeastern Ohio Universities Medical College.
Baccalaureate nursing students from the
University of Akron go to the schools and meet with elementary school
students before the school day begins.
During club meetings, UA nursing students
develop activities appropriate to this age group, including hands-on
demonstrations of various procedures performed by nurses. The elementary
students also learn how to live healthy lives.
This before-school club encourages minority-disadvantaged
students to consider nursing and other health care professions as
future careers.
